A friend of mine practiced Epee, but I was much more fond of saber. I've always thought Foil was boring, but that's 'cause I fence fast and loose and Foil is all about precision.

Anyway, if you're ever looking for a simple online game that's quick to get into, I recommend Robocraft. It's a build-your-own vehicle combat game that basically uses the gummi ship editor from Kingdom Hearts. There's no emphasis on making something that's practical, so just go with anything you might find fun. The game is in alpha though so expect a bunch of changes and things you can pay money for that have no real use.

So recently I've found a great cure for boredom. Chatroulette. If you're lucky, you don't even see that many dicks or get skipped too much before you have fun just shootin' the shit with random people.

When I'm bored I usually have a few choices.

Most common one is painting miniatures, while putting some series, podcast or some music on in the background.
If I don't feel like doing that I'll probably end up playing a game, mostly Civilization 4, since it's pretty handy and I can still play it on an on.

If everything else fails, I start to drone on YouTube. Surfing on YouTube always makes me tired though.

I tend to immerse myself in occult knowledge when I get bored. While I may never tangle with the mythical, knowing everything from gods to spirits has helped me in day to day life, oddly enough.
